Silpium Mons for bassoon and sound projection is part of the cycle “17/2”, which contains exclusively compositions for a solo instrument and sound projection written in 17/2 measure, all with a tempo indication of ½=17.
The sound projection in Silpium Mons is based on sound recordings for which the lowest common denominator is the phenomenon of fire (and/or burning): chimney fires, gas, volcanic eruptions, to name a few. At the same time, the composition Silpium Mons is also a continuation of my fascination with the variety of astronomical phenomena – in this case, the “mountains” of Jupiter’s moon Io. Their special feature is an extremely pronounced volcanism, which is not surpassed by any other celestial body of the solar system.
